Meet the Inventors: Brian and Amy Weinstock

Our newest game to hit the shelves, Zip Zap, is flying off of them as fast as it plays! (And that is pretty fast.) Zip Zap is the lightning fast card game that is sure to become a family favorite.

To play, you’ll have to quickly rid your hand of cards by playing numbers in order. Lay down a run and consider yourself in the zone. But don’t get caught ZZZ-ing or else Zap! – another player will steal the lead! Be the first one out of cards and zero in on the win!

I recently had the chance to catch up with its inventors, Brian and Amy Weinstock, to get their insight on this great new game.

Amy and Brian, the inventors of Zip Zap!

What inspired you to create the game Zip Zap?
Our inspiration comes from nearly everywhere.  In this case, we love card games and simply set out to come up with a very approachable family card game that was easy to learn.  It took a few years of working through several less playable games before we landed on ZipZap.

Have you invented other games?
Yes!  We’ve invented many games including most recently Cranuim Scribblish, Crappy Birthday, Randomonium and Gassy Gus.

What are your top five favorite games that are on the market? Do you have favorite Gamewright games?
Our favorite games are Balderdash, Would You Rather?, Wits and Wagers, What’s Your’s Like? and (shamelessly) Scribblish!

Our favorite Gamewright game is Slamwich!  It was our daughter Katie’s favorite game. We started playing it when she was 4 and now she’s 18.

If you were to give advice to others on how to invent a game, what would it be?
Make it simple and fun.  If it takes more than 60 seconds to explain, simplify it.  Play test your games as much as possible with as many people as you can bring to the table.

Do you have any more games in the works that you can talk about?
We always have games in development but our lips are sealed.

Why do you think playing card, board and dice games (i.e. games without plugs or batteries) is important?
We think that face-to-face interaction is more important now than ever before. Unplugging to play a game is a great thing for all of us!

What makes Zip Zap different than other games on the market? Why will families enjoy playing it?
We really like the fact that it plays so quickly with lots of turnabouts!

They’re right – this game is fast and you never know what can happen! If you’d like to win a copy, be the first one to quickly respond with the word ZAP! For this contest, just like the game – you snooze you lose!

Edit: Congratulations to our fastest Zapper, Eric H.! While many of you had quick-like-lightning responses, there can only be one winner. We’re sure Eric will master this game in no time!
